Going To The Extreme: An Update To The AirPort Extreme And Time Capsule

Do you remember the first time you successfully connected two computerized devices together on a single network? It is one if those moments that many of us will never forget.

If you would like to relive that moment, a new wireless networking specification called 802.11ac is making its way to many of the new technology products you will purchase in the coming months and years. In-fact, it is already available in the newly updated MacBook Air, and will also be included in the new MacPro when released later this year.

To coincide with these inclusions, Apple has released a radically redesigned AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule. Both units support the 802.11ac draft specification, as well as previous standards that include 802.11 a/b/g/n.

The new 802.11ac draft specification will deliver up to 3x faster networking speed (when used with 802.11ac compatible devices). You will also notice your networking reach has expanded with this new technology, and existing wireless connections will also expand due to the new form factor to both units.

By making the units tall, they will not only fit better when placed on a desk but, Apple has been able to rework the antenna layout therefore increasing the range of your home or office network. That far corner office, no longer looks so bad.

You are also able to connect up to 50 users to the network, making it a perfect solution for our small to medium sized business clients.

Besides the wireless interface, you also get a Gigabit Ethernet WAN port, three Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports, and a USB 2 port for hard drive expansion or connecting a compatible printer.

If you decide to go for a Time Capsule, you will also benefit from either a 2TB or 3TB internal hard drive that is perfect for backing up your most important content.

We already have stock of both the AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule. Feel free to drop in to the store and pick one up. Doing so will future proof your wireless networking for years to come.
